Residential Contractor Roundtable
Join us for a roundtable discussion with greater Cincinnati residential contractors. They’ll share their perspective on documentation challenges, budget estimation, engagement in the design process, contracts, project communication, and how they see the field evolving.
Ohio Small Firm Exchange-From Architect to Owner’s Rep: Filling the Gap
David Craun will share his journey from a Design Director at a medium-sized design firm to a sole practitioner offering Owner’s Representative services and back again into a small architectural firm, where he balances both roles. Learn the responsibilities, risks, and rewards of this little-known professional service and discuss why more architects should consider it.
Committee on the Environment (COTE)
The Committee on the Environment (COTE) meets the first Wednesday of each month. COTE is currently working on organizing sustainability tours and planning an Ice Box Challenge to advance passive house knowledge in Cincinnati. This presentation takes a close look at how to insulate these walls safely from the interior - considering moisture drive, bulk rainwater issues, and insulation materials - avoiding the dangers of freeze-thaw and mold.

CRAN Holiday Social
Join AIA Cincinnati’s Custom Residential Architects Network for a holiday social, graciously hosted by Bromwell’s at The Härth Room. Lite bites and a drink ticket will be provided to attendees, then a cash bar is available (pop, water, etc complimentary).
This event is free, but RSVP is requested by December 5 to help our hosts plan staffing and refreshments needs.

CDA29 - Cincinnati Design Awards
The Cincinnati Design Awards (CDA) program recognizes the best built-environment design produced by Cincinnati-area creative firms and promotes the social and economic value of good design in our community. Each year, a distinguished nationwide jury of design thought leaders and eminent practitioners presents the awards to projects submitted by local architecture, interiors, landscape, community planners and experiential graphic designers. New to this year, we will also be including student work from local Universities!
Ice Box Challenge Celebration
AIA Cincinnati’s Committee on the Environment (COTE) celebrates the Ice Box Challenge with a happy hour social. Join COTE for a beverage and some snacks to thank the volunteers and sponsors who made the event possible!

Chapter Gathering with Fellows in Conversation on Design and Chapter Elections
Fellowship is the highest membership honor awarded by the American Institute of Architects. AIA Cincinnati members Robert Busch, Michael Schuster, and John Senhauser were each elevated for Fellowship under Object 1: To promote the aesthetic, scientific, and practical efficiency of the profession Fellowship in this object is granted to architects who have produced extensive bodies of distinguished work that has been broadly recognized for its design excellence through design, urban design, or preservation. CRANawards Highlights - An inside look at creating award winning projects
Join us as RWA and Drawing Dept give insight into their process creating their 2025 CRANawards winning projects. RWA will be presenting their New Custom Home – Traditional winning project: Quintessential Lakeside Retreat. Drawing Department will be presenting their New Custom Home – Modern winning project In a Modern Manor. Guests will have the opportunity to understand how site conditions and programmatic requirements were utilized to inform the design.
Basics of Air Change Rates (ACH): Facts versus Fiction
Air Changes per Hour (ACH) is often specified in ASHRAE standards, codes, design guidelines, and handbooks for required ventilation rate. Examples of such spaces are patient rooms, operating room, bathrooms, cleanroom, and laboratories. This presentation will systematically demonstrate the validity of popular notions regarding the ACH.

The Ice Box Challenge is a contest and an experiment to demonstrate how a home can be super energy efficient AND comfortable.

A Historical Tour of Hamilton Architecture: How downtown historic buildings have been reused & revitalized for residential purposes
Hamilton, Ohio has seen a renaissance in revitalization of its abundant yet vacant historic building stock over the past decade. Through strategic partnerships with local citizens, developers, state funders, architects, and community partners, the downtown historic building fabric has been uncovered, re-imagined, and restored to create a vibrant, mixed-use downtown area focusing on the arts, community development, and unique residential spaces crafted from historic structures.

Urban Design Community Gathering
AIA Cincinnati’s Urban Design Community is part of AIA’s national network of Knowledge Communities. UDC provides opportunities to share informed viewpoints on specific urban planning issues through meetings, workshops, and public forums while increasing the role of Cincinnati architects in the public/private sector decision-making process. Urban Design works to continue an exchange of practices and ideas for architecture beyond individual buildings and client interests, with active partnering relationships that impact expected changes.

Solar 101: Fundamentals of Solar Energy and Building Integration
This session offers a straightforward introduction to solar energy systems - what they are, how they work, and how they are commonly implemented on and around commercial buildings. Participants will explore real-world case studies and learn how solar components are selected, configured, and installed.
