This course focuses on the incorporation of human-centered design approaches for high performance facades. Participants of this course will be provided an overview and examination of the benefits of incorporating human-centered design methods into their facade design for the purpose of facilitating well-being.
This course will describe research findings attributed to designing with users in mind and will go into detail on what high performance facades are as well as advanced technology in cladding materials for building enclosures. This course will also describe the impact of climate change on buildings and façade performance.
Learning Objectives
Identify human-centered design methods for high-performance facades.
Learn, through current research, how facades affect human-centered design and the impact architecture has on well-being.
Discuss thermal behavior of building enclosures, moisture movement through facades, occupant comfort, selection of advanced materials and facade technologies.
Recognize how these approaches have been used for human-centered facade designs through case studies.
