Advanced registration required before 3pm on July 26. (Note: If you attended the SFx program in 2021 offered by AIA Cleveland, AIA Columbus, and AIA Cincinnati, you cannot receive CE credit for this program however you are still welcome to attend.)

Learning Objectives

  • Become acquainted with the SFx and it primary functions.

  • Learn more about small firm statistics in the U.S. and the impact that small firms have on the industry.

  • Learn about how the SFx is transitioning to a state based model and the ways in which this will open up more opportunities for involvement and diversity.

  • Learn about special projects and resources that the SFx has recently created or is currently working on creating, in collaboration with other AIA groups.

Speakers

Matthew Clapper, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP

Small Firm Exchange Executive Committee member Matthew Clapper is the Principal/Founder of MAD (Modern Architecture & Development) and UD4U, an urban design consultancy. Before starting MAD he worked in the NYC offices of Perkins Eastman and Greenberg Farrow, as well as the Paris, France office of Ibos and Vitart. In addition to his national volunteer work with AIA’s Small Firm Exchange, he is on the local AIA Chicago boards of the Regional & Urban Design Knowledge Committee and the Small Practitioners Group.

Bruce T. Fallon, AIA

Small Firm Exchange Chair Bruce T. Fallon has worked in the architectural and construction industry since 1994 and has been with WPA Architecture since 2005. His approach to design begins by listening to the needs of the clients, the site context, and the specific needs of the building type in order to develop a specific solution. He enjoys being involved from design through construction and has significant experience in designing Healthcare, Multi-Family, and Civic facilities.

Jim Guthrie, AIA, NCARB

Small Firm Exchange State Representative Jim Guthrie is the third owner of Hub + Weber since its founding in 1973.  Hub + Weber is a small group of design professionals focused on the needs of our diverse clients and project types. Jim manages every project with particular focus on a collaborative and methodological approach that engages our clients in a step by step process to obtain their goals.  Considering client goals, needs, opportunities, dreams, budget and schedule to craft and ideal solution that exceeds our client’s expectations.  Jim is particularly interested in elevating the firm's design output and maintaining a fun firm culture and relationships with the community outside of architecture.  With his leadership, Hub + Weber is a vibrant and diverse office that focuses on the individual skills and interests of its staff.  Jim believes strongly in building relationships beyond the business of architecture, and Hub+Weber hosts the region’s largest (also only) badminton tournament annually.
