Program Overview
Advance registration required before 3pm on July 14.
This open dialogue session with NOMA’s 2021-2022 National President Jason Pugh, will focus on the importance of practice management while building diverse and inclusive teams, all the way from studio projects to office leadership at the top. Industry building and design professionals at all experience levels will learn about some of the challenges and hurdles that currently exist following the Racial Awakening 2020 after the murder of George Floyd, as well as some of the resources, best practices and strategies that are being employed by firms at various size across the country.
Learning Objectives
Awareness of outdated practice methodologies and policies that have systematically prevented or discouraged DEI in the architecture and design industry
Understanding of the importance to build diverse and inclusive project teams and leaders to deliver great design for all communities
Steps to gain access to resources, tools, and networks to help diversify project teams and assist with recruitment and retention efforts
Steps to connect with allied organizations, like NOMA, at the local and national level to build stronger pipelines to diverse professionals and students

Jason Pugh, AIA, AICP, NOMA, LEED AP
2021-2022 President of the National Organization of Minority Architects
Jason Pugh, AIA, AICP, NOMA, LEED AP, is both a licensed architect and certified planner, and a Principal Architect and Urban Designer at Gensler's Chicago office. He manages a variety of projects which engage the extended community and end-users, following projects from schematic community-based master plans through full construction.
Pugh has a passion for helping develop underserved communities and the next generation of designers and architects. He previously served as the president of the Illinois NOMA chapter 2015-2016, and is currently on Chicago’s Executive Board for the ACE (Architecture, Construction, and Engineering) Mentor Program. Pugh has a Bachelor of Arts from Howard University, one of seven Historically Black Colleges and Universities with an architecture accreditation, and a Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University.
