Program Overview
Both the architect and contractor play vital roles in the design and construction of a building. When an architect and contractor’s expectations are not aligned, this can lead to issues during construction that can have negative impacts on the project’s health, safety, and welfare outcomes. However, during the traditional Design/Bid/Build delivery method, the first time the two groups interact is during the bidding process, when most design decisions have already been made, making aligning expectations even more difficult.
This program consists of a round-table discussion with four general contractors and a registered architect to provide, from a contractor’s point of view, key factors and expectations of preconstruction that have an impact on the success of a construction project.
Registration deadline 5pm on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.
Learning Objectives
Understand design intent, means and methods, and delegated design from both the contractor’s and architect’s perspective to eliminate costly errors and omissions in construction documents.
Understand the top mistakes design teams make in the preparation of the construction documents that cause changes during construction and how they might impact the health, safety, and welfare of the project.
Understand the bid process, from front ends to buyout, from the contractor’s perspective, to help architects create bid packages that allow for effective evaluation of bids and a clear understanding of architect and contractor expectations.
Understand the contractor’s perspective on contingencies, allowances, and alternates and how they can successfully be used on Design/Bid/Build projects.
