Program Overview

This program previews proposed amendments to the 2024 Ohio Building and Plumbing Codes and the five-year rule review of the 2019 Residential Code of Ohio. Majed A. Dabdoub, P.E., will discuss implications for residential design and construction documents, including fire-code coordination, egress and the possibility of single-stair multifamily buildings, plumbing, residential accessory structures, tiny houses, patio covers, and residential plumbing and electrical systems. Participants will examine how the proposals relate to occupant health and safety and distinguish proposed changes from adopted requirements.

Majed A. Dabdoub, P.E. studied Civil Engineering at Ohio University before earning an M.S. in Structural Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He served as a building plans examiner for the City of Cincinnati from 1987 through 2014 when he left to start his own firm which offers code consulting, training, and structural engineering services.

Learning Objectives

Explain the life-safety implications of proposed Ohio Building Code changes, including fire-code coordination and the possibility of single-stair multifamily buildings, and identify egress questions that require review before design application.
Identify how proposed Ohio Plumbing Code amendments could affect design and construction documents, and explain the relationship between plumbing code compliance and occupant health and safety.
Describe the implications of proposed Residential Code of Ohio changes for post-frame accessory structures, tiny houses, and patio covers, and identify design considerations that protect occupants and users.
Identify potential design and documentation changes arising from proposed residential plumbing and electrical system rules, and explain why adoption status must be verified before applying them to protect occupant health and safety.
