Program Overview

AIA Cincinnati and ASLA Cincinnati are pleased to present a walking tour of two recently completed gathering spaces in Cincinnati’s core.

Space is limited. Register early.

Court Street Plaza

Greater Cincinnati continues to be in the vanguard of creating great public gathering spaces. Recently, the Court Street Plaza was designed and built, adding another gemstone to Cincinnati’s core. As new storefront businesses emerge in the historic buildings which line the plaza, this richly designed space will provide a pedestrian-friendly venue for eating, celebrations, and connection in the Central Business District.

Ziegler Park

Contrasting the hardscaped character of the Court Street Plaza, the recently completed Ziegler Park offers a different character of another asset-rich public gathering space. Ziegler Park features grassy areas, interesting playground equipment, basketball courts, and a deep-water pool. This park plays an important role in the connective tissue for Over-the-Rhine’s citizens.

Even though these two places diverge in terms of character, both spaces provide a crucial element of public gathering space design: fertile ground for people of a community to connect with each other.  Each element of these two spaces was intentionally located and designed (great gathering spaces don’t happen by accident).

Please join us for a walking tour of these two public gathering spaces – which are only three blocks apart. This tour will be led by landscape architects from Human Nature, lead designers for both gathering spaces. A representative of 3CDC, the developer and operator of both venues, will join us as well. Participants on this tour will learn how these spaces were conceived, why key design decisions were made, and how programming and activities in these spaces continue to be curated.

After the tour, if the mood strikes us, we’ll conclude at a nearby watering hole.

The tour will proceed rain or shine. BYO umbrella if the forecast calls for rain.
