Marsh/Marvin: Avondale Revitalization Project
Marsh has been a wholesale distributor of Marvin Windows and Doors since 1992, starting with just two locations in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky and Dayton, Ohio. We now have seven locations, of which five carry the Marvin brand: Ft. Thomas and Lexington in Kentucky, and Montgomery, Dayton, and Columbus in Ohio.
Our partnerships with both commercial and ultra luxury residential architects in these communities has been critical in helping us grow the Marsh/Marvin brand in these markets. However, our partnership and support of AIA Cincinnati and their CRAN community has been unprecedented. We are a Charter Title Sponsor of what was once Cincinnati CORA (Congress of Residential Architecture) and now CRAN (Custom Residential Architects Network), since its founding 18 years ago. We were AIA Cincinnati’s Sesquicentennial Sponsor in 2020 and have plans to maintain these incredible relationships for the foreseeable future.
Historic preservation is one of our growing markets. Various tax credit programs and HUD grants have fueled the restoration and revitalization of Cincinnati’s urban core. One of those projects is the Avondale Revitalization Project designed by AIA Cincinnati board member, Jeff Raser. Jeff partnered with Boston-based The Community Builders, HGC Construction, and Marsh/Marvin to restore nine scattered site low-income multi-family structures. Below are a few facts about this fantastic, one-of a-kind project:
A HUD Choice Community Grant was issued to fund the project in 2012
Jeff Raser and his team started the design and development in 2013
The project encompassed nine multi-family buildings on Reading Road in North Avondale.
Prior to this project, this area of Avondale struggled with crime, which was significantly reduced after the renovations.
Construction started in 2014 and ran through 2017
+/-$33 Million in construction costs not including building purchases
Marsh/Marvin provided over $1 million in historic windows, the largest historic restoration project we have completed to date.
Jeff Raser received feedback from the community leadership that the historic Marvin Replacement Windows made the most significant impact on these buildings. Without Jeff recognizing the virtues of Marvin’s Historic Window solutions, and Marsh’s advocacy and passion for historic restoration, we would not have been involved.
