Women in Architecture: Anika Anisha

Anika Anisha, Assoc. AIA, Architectural Designer, Elevar Design Group

What got you interested in architecture?

I have been interested in architecture since childhood. It was also my mom’s dream for me to become an architect.

How did you get started in the field?

After graduating with a B. Arch.and a M Arch. degree, I always looked for opportunities which will help me explore and learn more about architecture. Hence, I have been very fortunate to work with amazing people.

Where are you in your career?

At the very early stage and on the track to licensure to become a registered Architect.

What’s the biggest highlight of your career so far?

Being part of a very strong and inspiring team aka Elevar Design Group.

What’s been the biggest challenge in your career so far?

I was born and raised in Asia, where I have got my B.Arch and also worked for a year. Therefore, after coming to the USA and during my M. Arch, I had to re-learn a lot of things after restarting my career in the USA, because the context is very different in Asia.

Who do you admire or what are you excited about/inspired by right now?

All the women in architecture inspire me everyday.

What do you wish you’d known starting out in the field? And/or what advice would you give to a young woman considering pursuing a career in architecture?

This is a very challenging career, but always be prepared to overcome all the difficulties with passion.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy?

Traveling and exploring authentic flavors around the globe.
