What inspires you?
The working sketches/models of artists and architects always capture my attention. Tracing the development of a concept is both fascinating and relatable; it’s a relief to see that even the most celebrated creative minds must work iteratively to achieve great results.
Of your recent projects, which is your favorite and why?
I’m proud of my contributions to the Elmira Corning Regional Airport in upstate New York with Fennick McCredie Architecture in Boston, MA. The team developed an ambitious design featuring a large, post-security courtyard that was to be designed and constructed on a very condensed timeline. We were lucky enough to work with a great set of construction partners that kept the intended function and aesthetics in the foreground while also keeping the project on budget and on schedule. The approving smiles of passengers were worth the effort.
What do you consider your strongest skill?
My experience in the profession has proven that a sketch or diagram is often the quickest way to express complex concepts, so I constantly strive for clear, concise communication through drawing and documentation.
What do you love most about what you do?
It’s a tossup between creative problem solving and the comradery of working towards a shared goal. Whether it’s design, documentation, construction administration, or project management, there’s always opportunities for both.
When you’re not being an architect, what do you enjoy doing?
Outside of the office, I enjoy reading, woodworking and occasionally, printmaking. Outside in general, I enjoy hiking and snowboarding.
