2021 CRANawards Chair
Rick Meyer, AIA, President and Architect, Meyer Brothers and Sons
Of your recent projects, which is your favorite and why?
We are in the construction phase of a large addition and remodel of a historic home in Hyde Park. It’s one of my favorites because of the creative solutions we had to develop in order to satisfy the clients plan requirements, while maintaining the form and character of the existing home. Steep pitches, curved roof forms and removal of the rear bearing wall, which ran the width of the entire home, were just a few challenges we had to solve as a design-build team. Our goal was to achieve a design that was properly scaled, while also functional.
What inspires you?
My faith and family inspires me to be the best husband to my wife and father to my three boys. I strive to show them what it looks like to live well, work hard, and find creative solutions to life’s challenges. In addition, I am also inspired to carry on the tradition of my father and uncle, who started our family business in 1978. They began with strong family values instilled by their parents and a desire to do quality work for people. We have built on that foundation and expanded to not only employ quality craftsmen, but also a talented team of designers, to bring the whole process together in a creative, organized and efficient manner.
What does the CRANawards committee do?
Simply put, we put on the CRANawards. We plan, communicate, and organize all the details necessary to help celebrate the best of what the Cincinnati architectural community is putting out in the residential market. It’s a unique program, with few other CRAN chapters hosting their own awards, and we are proud to continue the tradition.
How can AIA Cincinnati members get involved with your committee?
1) Attend CRAN monthly lunch and learn meetings to help encourage other residential design professionals.
2) Submit or encourage your friends to submit their work for the CRANawards.
3) Attend the CRANawards ceremony to celebrate and witness the great work our community is creating. Learn more.
