EP Committee Launch

New in 2023: The Early Professionals committee seeks to support early professionals in achieving licensure, securing gainful, and meaningful employment, and fostering community. Whether you are working on licensure, are a recently registered architect, or are looking to give back to the next generation, we would love to have you involved!

About the Committee

What is an “Early Professional”? It’s a term meant to include not just those who are working on achieving licensure, but also those who are recently licensed or otherwise early  in their career. Architecture school is hard - finding your path after graduation can be a challenge too.

Our Purpose

The EP Committee works to demystify the path from recent graduate to seasoned professional, and have a little fun along the way. Over the past year, prior to the official launch of our fledgling committee, we worked to catalog all ARE test prep materials currently owned by AIA Cincinnati and create a budget to purchase the latest and greatest. These materials are housed in the AIA Cincinnati office and are available for any AIA member’s use.

As a part of our work to support licensure candidates we also have monthly ARE study sessions planned for this year. Our first study session on January 28 will cover testing basics, format, and strategies. Then, we will start going through each of the six ARE divisions beginning with Practice Management in February. A number of recently licensed architects have volunteered to lead the study sessions - if you would like to be involved please reach out!

The EP Committee is not only focused on studying - we seek to spread information about potential career paths for architects. Did you know that the AIA defines specific job titles for architectural staff? Your title shouldn’t be a mystery! The AIA has this information, as well as information about average compensation available for review in the AIA office.

Community & Networking

All this information is great, but community and networking are just as important to professional growth as studying and strategizing. Come visit us at one of our quarterly events to introduce yourself.

If you’d like to get involved with AIA Cincinnati’s EP Committee, we meet monthly on the second Monday of each month at 11AM via Teams. You can get the Teams info by registering through the newsletter, or emailing early professional chair Darion Ziegler.
