Program Overview

This updated program looks at non-technical risk drivers from closed claims that incurred a loss or expense over a recent 5-year period. To gain further perspective on the six areas of risk, we delve into the elements of risk within each risk driver. These 30 elements break out the non-technical actions, behaviors, or breakdowns in project or practice management that have resulted in a Loss Prevention file or a claim. Recommendations are provided to avoid claims and improve practice and project management.

Registration deadline noon on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.

Learning Objectives

  • At the conclusion of this program attendees, through the use of appropriate project or practice management processes, will be able to identify and determine the need for alternative materials or methods (for example) to mitigate the impact of  a risk to the execution of the project design or risks the design poses to the soundness or health impacts of a building, a site or its occupants and users.

  • Attendees will learn how to apply their comprehension of risk drivers to recognize, assess, and determine risks in their design processes that may impact the safety and welfare of the users or others by, for example, the buildings selected materials or building systems.

  • After completing this program attendees will be able to examine the project or practice management processes they have in place (or may need to specify) to appropriately evaluate proposed systems, materials, or methods intended to safeguard the users of buildings or sites.

  • During this workshop attendees will learn an “unclear or inappropriate scope of work” during contract administration can result in inappropriate construction observation and issues with contractors that may impact the integrity or soundness of a building.  Strategies to avoid these issues are provided.
