Program Overview

Construction cost increases of 200% or more in the last 5 years has been a shock to the system. Client expectations and even our own gut understanding of the cost of building, or renovating, in today’s market are difficult to rectify with the reality of today’s bidding environment. Rethinking the traditional approach, we challenge the idea that the low bidder is always the best choice and propose a value-added methodology.  

Part 2 of this program series will focus on strategies for proactive project cost management during design, and project delivery.

• Understand how building design and systems selections made early in the design process impact project schedules and budgets.

• Understand the opportunities and challenges with design assist methodology, and how it can impact project schedules and budgets.

• Understand the different types of budget contingencies, their purposes and how they protect both owners, the design team and contractors from friction arising from adjustments that occur in the normal course of project development and execution.  

• Understand the variety of project delivery methodologies that allow for robust collaborative design and engineering solutions focused on reducing overall project costs.
