Program Overview
In “Voices in Design: Utilizing the Spectrum of Community Engagement,” Brett Randall Jones, AIA, Principal at David Baker Architects, shares insights from his extensive experience in affordable housing and community-based hospitality projects. This lecture delves into the diverse methodologies of community engagement, ranging from focus groups and surveys to listening sessions and community charrettes, underscoring the importance of equitable access to design input. Participants will learn to navigate the 'Spectrum of Engagement,' from informative to generative collaboration, effectively communicate with clients about community involvement levels, and select the most suitable engagement methods for various projects.
Through real-world examples, the lecture will guide attendees in assessing the impact of these strategies, illustrating how effective community engagement can lead to innovative, inclusive, and impactful architecture that resonates with both clients and communities alike. Jones will demonstrate how these inclusive strategies not only inform but also enrich architectural outcomes, creating environments where every voice contributes to the design process.
