Program Overview

Hosted by Cincinnati 2030 District, IBEW Local 212, PRO Lighting and Solar LLC, and AIA Cincinnati.

This session will provide participants with a broad range of information regarding Solar types, design, and implementation across residential, small business, and commercial business platforms. This session will focus on reducing environmental impacts with on-site renewables exploring how solar can contribute towards a net zero energy footprint. Interviews with design teams, electrical contractors, engineers, and end-users will provide informative narrative on the process steps and lessons learned for anyone interested in implementing solar for themselves.

Participants will receive ‘Solar 101’ information including design considerations, such as: solar placement options, structural considerations, electrical pathways, and building / occupant safety considerations around solar implementation. Participants will have access to the Solar Lab where apprentices will actively showcase how Solar Panels are constructed and the installation process. This session will provide a ‘hands-on’ approach with physical installations of each array type on-site as well as experts from architectural, engineering, construction, and end-users to identify how solar can contribute to their next building project.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe where Solar is today and what has been accomplished to date.

  • Compare and contrast solar implementation options including Rooftop array, Building Cantilever, and Ground Mount arrays.

  • Identify the design impacts when considering solar for your project and list some of the key opportunities for local businesses, solar providers, and financing methods.

  • Discuss the 2030 Challenge and how Solar can contribute towards energy efficiency and a Net Zero building.
