Program Overview

This program is intended for the architect and designer to give an overview of Italian design precedents and influencers from the past and show how the design principles present historically visually carry through into modern design of today.

This program will be interactive including an observation exercise. Identifying the unique visual qualities of the fundamentals of Italian design is intended to provide tools for the architect to use in creating new work that emulates this aesthetic tradition.

Learning Objectives

  • Become familiar with experts in Italian design who have had significant influence to shape it.

  • Identify key design principles that are present, unique, and significant in Italian design.

  • Become exposed to historical examples in Italian design and how design principles found in them translate into modern Italian design.

  • Become familiar with design vocabulary and requirements in Italian design – specifically as it relates to the anatomy of a cabinet.
